Do you need an Infant Pillow for a LÍLLÉbaby Carrier
All LÍLLÉbaby 6 in 1 carriers are able to carry a newborn (from 3.2kgs) without the Infant Pillow. The LÍLLÉbaby Infant Pillow is an optional extra that is sold separately for parents who would prefer to carry Baby in the "fetal carry position" with their legs inside the carrier, rather than in the regular legs out carry position.
What is the LÍLLÉbaby Infant Pillow?
The LÍLLÉbaby Infant Pillow is simply a little cushion designed to sit underneath baby's bottom inside the carrier to provide support and correctly position them when using a LÍLLÉbaby 6 in 1 carrier in the "legs in" fetal carry position.
Best Position For "Healthy Hips"
Whether you choose to use the infant pillow in the legs in carry position, or without the infant pillow with legs out, your baby is actually supported in the same optimal "M" leg position.
The "M" position refers to your little one's feet, knees and bottom forming an M shape with their knees elevated and hips in a natural open position.
As demonstrated in the picture above when your baby is sitting on top of the infant pillow their legs are in the same position as they would be with legs out and the carrier set up with the narrow seat.
(Of course the front panel of your LÍLLÉbaby carrier would be covering the baby and pillow when in use!)
Setting up your LÍLLÉbaby Carrier for a Newborn
WITH the Infant Pillow:
- Panel - "Wide Seat" mode
- Baby's legs - Inside the carrier
- Waistband - Lower down on your body***
WITHOUT the Infant Pillow
- Panel - "Narrow Seat" mode
- Baby's legs - Outside the carrier
- Waistband - Higher up on your body ***
*** When wearing your baby in any baby carrier the goal is to position your baby in the carrier so their head is "close enough to kiss". When using the Infant Pillow your baby is lifted higher up in the carrier so you can position the waistband lower down than you would have it without the infant pillow.
Reasons to Choose the LÍLLÉbaby Infant Pillow?
While either option is equally safe and appropriate for your newborn there are a few reasons you might choose to opt for the Legs in fetal carry position with the LÍLLÉbaby Infant Pillow.
Keep Baby Covered - Whether expecting a winter or summer baby some parents prefer to keep their baby’s legs completely covered to protect them from sun, wind and weather.
Lower Waistband - Very tall parents might benefit from having the waistband lower down on their body or you might just feel more supported with the waistband closer to your hips compared to higher on your waist.
- Personal Preference - Either yourself or your baby just prefer the legs in carry position. Some Baby’s like to be tucked into the carrier in the “fetal”/womb like carry position. And some parents prefer not to have their legs out of the carry.
Reasons to Choose the Legs Out Position
Ease of Use - Many parents find the legs out carry position simpler and easier to master compared to having to position the baby on the infant pillow. Also you don’t have an extra piece that can go missing!
Airflow For Baby - While someone might prefer to use the infant pillow in summer to keep baby’s legs covered from the sun, you might prefer to have their legs out in warmer weather to help keep them cool!
- Active Baby - Your baby might prefer to have their legs free to kick and move around which they can’t do when they’re snugly tucked inside the carrier with the pillow.
Any of the above reasons are perfectly valid and completely up to you!
